A new tier for Game Pass

Notably, the company isn't just tweaking existing subscriptions but rolling out a brand new plan. The addition of a new Xbox Game Pass Standard option will enable users to access the Netflix-like service for $14.99 a month, but won't include first-party titles on day one. It's an interesting move for the company, which has frequently marketed Xbox Game Pass as the place to "play day one." Although Ultimate and PC subscribers will still have that option, it won't be offered as standard.Xbox Game Pass Standard plan will eventually supplant Xbox Game Pass for Console, which curre…

Monster Hunter Wilds has a few now-standard deluxe editions that chuck in some extra goodies for anyone willing to dish out more cash, but none of them hold a candle to the Japan-exclusive collector’s edition that also includes a whole, literal bike. Monster Hunter Wild’s massive beasties, exciting trouser-making potential, and new fishing minigame were the highlights of last night’s September State of Play trailer, but Capcom quietly announced an extravagant Ultra Collector’s Edition that’s perhaps the most bonkers limited-time package that I’ve ever seen. The regular Monster Hunter Wilds Collector’s Edition comes with a gorgeous steelbook case containing a PS5 copy of the game, a fluffy baby seikret plush, and a small pouch styled after the game’s weapon bags – alongside in-game bonuses from the digital deluxe versions.「イーカプコン」にて、オフィシャルショップ限定版『モンスターハンターワイルズ ウルトラコレク&#…

Ghost of Yotei was revealed during last night’s PlayStation State of Play event as the sequel to the 2020 action-adventure hit Ghost of Tsushima – and it turns out its title may have more significant historical implications than initially meet the eye.As reported by Automaton, a Japanese scholar of Ainu culture and language has pointed out as much. Speaking on the title “Ghost of Yotei,” Itsuji Tangiku explains that the inclusion of “Yotei” is likely an intentional inaccuracy. “The fact that Ghost of Yotei is set in Hokkaido, Japan in 1603 is amazing,” he writes in his thread on the matter. “It encompasses the meaning of ‘ghost’ in many ways. It has to be intentional.”Tangiku describes how Mount Yotei, the inactive stratovolcano behind the Ghost of Tsushima sequel’s title, had a different name in 1603. The Ainu people originally dubbed the mountain “Machineshiri.” During the Meiji period between 1868 and 1912, it was instead called Mount Shiribeshi. It wasn’t until later that people then derived “Yotei” from “Shiribeshi,” meaning that its appearance in Ghost of Yotei’s title is anachronistic.製作発表が出た『ゴース&#1…

Fire! Trees! Mountains! Trees, on mountains! Sucker Punch Productions sure knows how to treat us. The first trailer for Ghost of Yotei is finally here, and to nobody’s surprise, Ghost of Tsushima’s long-awaited follow-up looks absolutely stunning. For all of its action-packed shots – its snarling wolves, tense duels, and burning buildings – the trailer’s scenic shots of Mount Yōtei and its peaceful surroundings are ultimately what’s left me pining for 2025 to arrive quicker. But in the meantime, I’ve got a confession. It took me four years to play Ghost of Tsushima, and although I finally got around to diving in earlier this year, I didn’t get around to finishing it. On one hand, I’ve been very lucky: Ghost of Yotei follows an all-new story set 300 years after the first game, which means I don’t have to risk spoiling what happens to my favorite grumpy swordsman Jin Sakai to learn more about the sequel. But if you think I watched that trailer and resisted coming back to Tsushima anyway – a world I should have explored every inch of by now – you’ve got another kunai coming. The scenic route  Blunder or brilliance? Ghost of Yotei’s title f…

In Space Marine 2, there is no greater joy than throwing yourself head-first into a seething mass of Tyranids. When you’re fighting in melee range, the game does an incredible job at making you feel like you’re surviving through sheer skill and power. Whether it’s barely breaking your stride to catch a leaping Hormagaunt by the tail and slamming them into paste, or parrying a Tyranid Warrior’s swords until an opening lets you plunge your own revving Chainsword into its midriff, there’s a fluidity to combat unlike anything I’ve played before. It’s a flow that’s complemented by the fact there aren’t too many opportunities to use your guns – a quick gap in might let you thin out the crowd with a spray of Bolter rounds, or take out some distant snipers, but it’s typically more effective to fight up-close. Unfortunately, when Space Marine 2 moves away from Tyranids in lieu of Chaos in the final act, this combat loses some of its appeal. Chaos takes a quality over quantity approach, reducing the amount of horde fodder in lieu of fielding elite units like Scarab Occult Terminators and Chaos Space Marines. These units tend to have more longer-ranged weapons, which means the bala…

ArcheAge Chronicles is developer XL Games’ upcoming sequel to its 2013 MMO ArcheAge, as revealed during last night’s PlayStation State of Play event – and it sounds even bigger than the original.Regarded by fans as one of the best MMORPGs to emerge during the 2010s, ArcheAge was unique for its time thanks to its blend of sandbox elements and more traditional RPG gameplay. The new sequel, ArcheAge Chronicles, is set to be even more innovative with its devs describing it as a follow-up entry that “transcends traditional MMORPG mechanics” like those found in the original.According to XL Games’ blog post on the sequel, it was initially set to be called ArcheAge 2 before becoming ArcheAge Chronicles. Devs describe it as an “online action RPG” rather than an MMO, stating that it “promises to deliver a more immersive experience with a strong emphasis on action combat” than its predecessor. That doesn’t mean that it’s no longer fit for fans of the MMORPG genre, however.

Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra has called for fewer game remasters in favor of more new experiences. In a tweet ahead of the PlayStation State of Play last night, Ybarra said that he was “hoping we don’t see a lot of remasters continuing across the industry.” Ybarra’s comments were attached to a picture of Days Gone, remaster rumors of which were circling ahead of last night’s event despite its 2019 release. That rumor wasn’t proven true last night, but the leaked Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was unveiled in its place, along with several other remaster projects, including Lunar and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.Hoping we don’t see a lot of remasters continuing across the industry. I get some enjoy them, but personally want to see sequels and new games/worlds. https://t.co/dE9a4OXelDSeptember 24, 2024Ybarra goes on to explain that while “I get some [people] enjoy” remasters, he’d “personally want to see sequels and new games/worlds.” There’s a definite sense across the industry that getting new IP off the ground is a risky proposition right now, and Sony’s push for live-service multiplayer has also led to several studios squeezing their successful catalogues harder than ev…
