You can currently get a healthy amount off one of my favorite horror board games for Halloween spooky times, but time is running out. Why? Because it’s since been replaced with a newer version, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find.2nd edition Betrayal at House on the Hill is $21.90 via Amazon at the moment, and its original MSRP was closer to $50 back in the day. Since being replaced by the 3rd edition (which has completely different scenarios and an all-new look) a couple of years ago, this version has become increasingly difficult to get at a decent price. Nintendo’s mysterious horror game – glimpsed last week via a brief and bizarre teaser trailer – is in fact a new entry in the Famicom Detective Club series.

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club will launch on 29th August, Nintendo confirmed today, showing off a first look at the game’s artwork, featuring its creepy paper bag-headed villain.

If you’re unfamiliar with the retro adventure series, this is a Nintendo-developed franchise originally released in the late 1980s. Two games were released, but only in Japan. And there they remained for more than 30 years, until a Nintendo Switch remake of the pair launched worldwide in 2021.

Bloomberg is reporting that Visions of Mana developer Ouka Studios is about to be shuttered by parent company NetEase.The Japanese studio opened 2020 and hired veteran developers from Capcom and Bandai Namco. It was tapped to handle production on Visions of Mana, a new mainline entry in the popular series published by Square Enix.The action-RPG garnered a positive reception when it launched earlier this week, but NetEase is reportedly looking to shutter the studio responsible for that critical success.It's claimed the Chinese conglomerate is reconsidering and scaling back its investments in Japan after struggling to deliver hit titles. Bloomberg states NetEase has laid off "all but a handful" of Ouka developers ahead of a potential closure.

Creative UK has started a fund targeted at small and medium-sized 'creative businesses' in North East England. The non-profit organization says its aim is to "give recipients the creative freedom to solely test ideas and develop a new product or service for the benefit of the sector."The North East Shared Success Fund is aimed at enterprises in North Tyneside, Newcastle, and Northumberland, and offers up to £25,000 in funding for projects such as film, TV, and games.Recipients will also be provided "tailor support" like workshops and one-on-one mentoring. Once the project succeeds or hits a certain financial threshold, they will be required to pay the funding back interest-free.Per regional associate director Carol Bell, the North East Fund addresses "early-stage creative businesses struggling with investment and cash flow when developing new IP and bringing new products and services to market.""We’re hoping to reach all specialisms across the sector with this fund," she continued. Embracer Group has officially appointed Thomas Kœgler as the new CEO of Asmodee. The move was announced earlier this year when Embracer outlined plans to split into three separate businesses to search for "winning formulas" after a brutal restructuring program.Asmodee, the French board game publisher known for distributing titles like Dobble, Ticket to Ride, and Catan, is an integral part of Embracer's new-look organization. Hopoo Games co-founders Paul Morse and Duncan Drummond have departed the Risk of Rain developer to join Valve.The studio broke the news in a post on X and revealed "many other talented [team] members" have also been hired by Valve. That cohort will be "working on game development" at the Half-Life maker and Steam owner.It's unclear how many Hopoo staffers have joined Valve in total, but it's enough for the studio to cancel upcoming project codenamed 'Snail' and bed down for the long nap."It's been an exciting and transformative 12 years. Eurogamer reported layoffs at Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League studio Rocksteady.On Monday, the outlet said the developer's QA team was effectively cut in half from 33 staffers to 15. Other departments were affected, though at time of writing, the total number of redundancies is unclear.Junior and tenured staff were among those let go. Senior management has reportedly acknowledged product quality will "suffer" with the QA culling, which included employees with "specialized knowledge."Sources told Eurogamer the anti-hero shooter's poor sales were a direct reason for the cuts.
