Sega's Entertainment Contents division, which houses its video game operations, "exceeded expectations" during the first quarter of the fiscal year due to strong full game and DLC sales. As noted on the company's fiscal report for the quarter ended June 30, 2024, net sales across the segment increased by 34 percent to 72.5 billion yen ($496.6 million). Submissions for the Draknek New Voices Puzzle Grant 2024 are officially open, and that's good news for puzzle game developers from underrepresented backgrounds.Successful applicants will receive a grant worth $15,000 to support production on a 'thinky' puzzle title currently in active development. Applicants must have a playable prototype and should ideally be an "early-career or under-the-radar developer" who is part of an underrepresented group within the games industry."These grants are intended to support creators who are under-invested-in within today’s game industry or who do not receive much support from the existing structures," explains the Draknek website. There are no geographical restrictions to applicants.Draknek defines a puzzle game as any title that is "primarily about thinking/logical reasoning–and not primarily challenging due to execution/timing elements.""Puzzle games cover a wide range of subgenres, e.g. Patrick's Parabox, ElecHead, Myst, Return of the Obra Dinn, and Opus Magnum are five games with very different gameplay, which would all be considered relevant," it adds. A veteran of Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront development has founded a fresh studio to launch Heart Electric, a new take on the hero shooter genre.

Niklas Fegraeus, who served 15 years at DICE, announced the founding of Stockholm-based startup Modoyo last month. Now, the first gameplay footage of its debut project has also been revealed.

Heart Electric – whose immediate look is bright and fun, if basic – hopes to stick a defibrillator to the embattled hero shooter genre, which recently saw the failure of Concord even as Valve’s own effort Deadlock waits in the wings.

The Wonder Woman game from Monolith and Warner Bros. Games is still in development, even after three years of relative silence from the developer and publisher. Revealed at the Game Awards back in 2021, we’ve been eagerly anticipating new details on this “single-player open-world action” game, particularly as it’s set to “introduce an original story set in the DC Universe.” That means that this Wonder Woman game will work beyond the boundaries of the best DC movies, and likely draw more widely from the comics for inspiration. I’m hopeful that this will be a new game of 2025 worth watching, but for now we’re left speculating about this adventure which, Warner Bros promises, will allow us to “become Diana of Themyscira in the fight to unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world.” So while we wait for more info, here’s everything we know about the new Wonder Woman game so far. Wonder Woman game release date speculationAs it stands, there is no Wonder Woman release date established. The game was unveiled in December 2021 at the Game Awards, but there’s been precious few updates since. Warner Bros. has confirmed that the Wonder Woman game is still in developme…

Hotline Miami 2’s PS5 port launched worldwide in 2023, including in Australia – a country where the game had been effectively banned years earlier. Somebody at PlayStation has seemingly finally realized the mistake, as Hotline Miami 2 is now being deleted from Australian PS5s and refunded to those who’d previously purchased it. Publisher Devolver Digital has responded to the news with a single, perfect screenshot.”We have become aware that the product Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number has not received a proper rating from the Australian Classification Board and have therefore taken steps to refund customers who have purchased the game,” PlayStation said in a customer service email, as reported by Australian outlet Press Start. Eurogamer got in touch with publisher Devolver for comment on the news, and the studio responded with a “visual statement” on the situation. That statement is presented in full below. The Australian Classification Board assigns ratings to games and other media. If something is refused a classification for what the Board deems as extreme content, it cannot be sold or exhibited in the country. A particularly notable example is Fallout 3, which was initially r…

Bethesda Game Studios studio design director Emil Pagliarulo has commented on some of the negative feedback to Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC.Starfield’s first story expansion launched last week to 42% positive “mixed” reviews on Steam, and it’s since dropped to just 30% positive reviews, earning it a “mostly negative” rating at the time of writing. Our own Starfield Shattered Space review awarded the expansion 3/5 stars and praised “some memorable side quests” while noting an at-times “lackluster” main questline and lack of follow-through on promised horror elements.Pagliarulo posted a lengthy Twitter thread in direct response to a fan who perceived his recent comments in an interview with GamesRadar+ as a “pat on the back” that “may not be warranted.””Optimism and excitement are pretty standard for interviews,” Pagliarulo said. “And I’m generally pretty optimistic and excitable (about games) by nature. That said, my optimism is in no way meant to be mud in the eye of any dissatisfied fan. That’s not how it works.”Pagliarulo affirmed that he’s “very proud” of the expansion and that “most of the quests and levels” were developed by BGS veterans “going all the way back to Morrowind…

You can get a lot done in 97 minutes. Make an elaborate dinner. Do those chores you’ve been putting off. Fritter away another irreplaceable sliver of your lifespan in your PvP game of choice. Instead of those equally excellent options, I recently gave in to my desire to play something like Metaphor: ReFantazio, the new JRPG from Atlus developed by a team of Persona and Shin Megami Tensei veterans, to tide me over until its release. Turning elsewhere to scratch this Atlus itch, I revisited Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance specifically to spend an absurd amount of time beating a single, openly unfair boss fight. It was grueling. It was inadvisable. It was a decade of justice packed into 97 minutes of turn-based brutality so vindicating that I’m still waiting on the forklift I ordered to move my ego. A boss out of time   Back in June, I had the chance to talk to Atlus veteran and now Metaphor: ReFantazio director Katsura Hashino, who got his start at the company with Shin Megami Tensei games and went on to direct 2003’s Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne. After the many times that Nocturne elbowed my teeth in when I played it over 10 years ago, naturally I took the opportunity t…

The upcoming survival horror game A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead will feature microphone detection that allows creatures to hear your real-life voice.”They’re coming for you. Don’t make a sound! …literally,” reads a tweet from the game’s official Twitter feed. “A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead features microphone detection, bringing the creatures’ terror right into your own room.” The announcement is accompanied by a deeply unsettling video of a man playing the game with a PS5 controller and triggering an ambush with a subtle sigh, suggesting the monsters in the game have the same sensitive hearing that they do in the popular movies the game is based on.They’re coming for you.
