Concord’s backend files are seemingly still being updated despite its unceremonious, maybe-temporary shutdown.Despite acquiring the developer and reportedly spending hundreds of millions of dollars on the project, publisher PlayStation was quick to pull the plug on its would-be live service contender just two weeks after release. The $40 FPS failed to attract hero shooter fans en masse or court newcomers to support its ambitious post-launch roadmap, which included expensive-smelling weekly animated cutscenes that would flesh out its sci-fi universe.PlayStation then pulled the game from sale and refunded those who bought it, all while developer Firewalk Studios worked to “determine the best path ahead.” It now seems that some progress is being made on whatever comes next for Concord, as the game’s backend files on SteamDB have been updated every day for 11 days straight. There’s no clue as to what exactly is being updated – that’s all under wraps – but the updates have spurred speculation that Concord might not be properly dead. Many guessed that PlayStation would want to recoup some development costs by repackaging Concord as a free-to-play release with all the money-making battle p…

Former Blizzard president and CEO Mike Morhaime says the gaming industry’s “downturn” in recent years has been “overstated,” likening the situation to a correction in a post-pandemic world.Morhaime left Blizzard in 2019 and started his own game company, Dreamhaven, in 2020. Its debut project, the tabletop-inspired fantasy RPG Sunderfolk, was just revealed. In an interview with Bloomberg Live (timestamped here), Morhaime was asked to comment on the gaming industry’s “tough climate,” particularly from the perspective of a new studio with a debut project.”We don’t have any games on the market, we don’t have any customers yet, so we haven’t experienced a downturn ourselves,” he said. “I would say the gaming downturn even is a little bit overstated, because when you look at the gaming industry in general, it actually is still growing. More people are playing games than ever before. “What you had is, going through the pandemic, people didn’t have a lot to do, and so they turned to the streaming platforms and they turned to games,” said Morhaime. “And it was a huge increase in usage. And a lot of companies saw that and they thought that was the new trend and that was just going to con…

The developer behind PsiloSybil describes it as “the most ruthless indie linear 3D platformer ever made,” and after spending an hour dying nearly 100 times in the opening stages that make up the game’s demo, I’m convinced they’re probably right.PsiloSybil is heavily inspired by Crash Bandicoot – if the tunnel-like stage design and PS1 aesthetics didn’t give it away, the opening cutscene’s references to “Aussie Rat” and the Crash-coded “marsupial” skin for the main character probably will. The game’s gorgeous in its psychedelic ’90s way, complete with wonky textures and a perfect recreation of analog video signals – which is, of course, optional if you hate fun.The game’s been in early access for some time and has developed a solid fandom over that time – more than 100 90% positive Steam reviews is nothing to sneeze at for a game of this scope. Alongside the 1.0 release, developer bad_vertex tweeted that this is “the most ruthless indie linear 3D platformer ever made,” and while you might think that’s hyperbole it seems the branding is well-earned.

Knowing how to start the Vessel of Hatred expansion in Diablo 4 means you can get straight into the new content, and there’s plenty to discover as you explore the fresh location of Nahantu while getting to grips with the brand new character class. However, you can’t just start up Diablo 4 and jump straight into it, as the seasonal progress system means you need to activate the correct campaign, and if you overlook the option then you could find yourself repeating the base storyline all over again. Silent Hill 2’s remake is out now for those who paid for early access, and players slightly more nervous about the whole going into a foggy, creepy town thing might accidentally stumble across a fun bonus achievement right at the start of the horror game.As reported by Automaton, it turns out that in the remake, players can attempt to turn away from the foreboding setting altogether, and make protagonist James Sunderland walk back up the road in a desperate attempt to leave before he’s faced with the horrors within. Unfortunately, there’s no Far Cry 4-style secret ending that lets you roll credits within the opening minutes of the game, as you’ll just be greeted by an invisible wall to halt your escape. That doesn’t mean you’re not rewarded for trying, though.Reaching this point of no return will give you a shiny achievement called “No Turning Back Now” – just to rub it in for anyone feeling particularly scared of what’s to come that they’re in it for the long haul (unless they just turn the game off, of course). So, if you’re trying to collect every achievement or trophy possible, make sure you’re not too quick to rush into the action, and get that little bit of backtracking…

Super Earth’s finest have done it again, and Helldivers 2 players are one step closer to getting their massive new space station, despite feeling rather worn out by the bots blocking their way. Right now in Helldivers 2, Super Earth is working on the all-new Democracy Space Station (DSS for short), which is said to be a “a powerful strategic tool for reshaping the Galactic Map.” Things kicked off last month with a Major Order to liberate bot planet Clasa or Gaellivare, and after doing so, efforts shifted to the bug front in Turing to help the Ministry of Science do their thing and build a new Xenoentomology Center. This bug-shaped break was brief, though, as the next stage of DSS’s construction brought everyone back to the doorstep of the Automatons on Claorell, in order to liberate the planet and its deep-mantle mining complex from the grasp of the bots.To the credit of the Helldivers, all of these efforts have been going extremely well so far – just a few hours ago, Claorell was liberated, and as a result, a new alloy that can enable the DSS to handle FLT jumps through space can be crafted. What a win! Except right now, it seems that the community’s biggest win is simp…

Ghost of Yotei was revealed during last night’s PlayStation State of Play event as the sequel to the 2020 action-adventure hit Ghost of Tsushima – and it turns out its title may have more significant historical implications than initially meet the eye.As reported by Automaton, a Japanese scholar of Ainu culture and language has pointed out as much. Speaking on the title “Ghost of Yotei,” Itsuji Tangiku explains that the inclusion of “Yotei” is likely an intentional inaccuracy. “The fact that Ghost of Yotei is set in Hokkaido, Japan in 1603 is amazing,” he writes in his thread on the matter. “It encompasses the meaning of ‘ghost’ in many ways. It has to be intentional.”Tangiku describes how Mount Yotei, the inactive stratovolcano behind the Ghost of Tsushima sequel’s title, had a different name in 1603. The Ainu people originally dubbed the mountain “Machineshiri.” During the Meiji period between 1868 and 1912, it was instead called Mount Shiribeshi. It wasn’t until later that people then derived “Yotei” from “Shiribeshi,” meaning that its appearance in Ghost of Yotei’s title is anachronistic.製作発表が出た『ゴース&#1…
