Tekken 8 – despite being a formidable entry in the 30-year-old fighting game franchise – has been getting on fans’ nerves. Its Year 1 Pass did not include the recently released Genmaji Temple stage DLC, a fact that fueled players’ existing disappointment over excessive microtransactions. But now, after fans revolted through aggressive Steam review bombing and impassioned Reddit threads, Tekken 8 devs are trying to make things better. “We apologize for not meeting the community’s expectations for the ‘Playable Character Year 1 Pass’ content and the ‘Genmaji Temple’ DLC release method,” Tekken posted on Twitter. To pacify players, Tekken 8 will automatically add the upcoming winter battle stage DLC to Year 1 Pass owners’ games. Then, it will gift all online Tekken 8 players the cost of Genmaji Temple (500 Tekken coins, or $5) if they log in to the game any time between October 29 and November 26. “All members of the Tekken Project team continue working to improve Tekken 8, and we appreciate your feedback and continued support of Tekken 8,” the developers’ Twitter statement continues. “Actually kind of a huge W,” said one very upvoted Reddit comment. “You guys…

Assassin’s Creed actor and metroidvania director Abubakar Salim says “too much money is being spent on games people do not want” by figures “who are not in touch with the medium” and are chasing the next live-service hit.Speaking with Dexerto, Salim – who stars in House of the Dragon Season 2, played Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins, and last year released indie Metroidvania Tales of Kenzera: Zau – suggested that the process of making his own game “made me have a much deeper appreciation for developers and the work that goes into it.”However, he also suggested that that process had opened his eyes to the fact that “games are still very much treated as a business rather than necessarily as an art form.” That approach, he says, is why “a lot of these big game publishers and companies are going for the games as a service model. They want to try and recreate the next Fortnite because it’s going to make them more money. Games shouldn’t be about that. It shouldn’t be about money, it should be about expression.”Following up on those comments on Twitter, Salim said that “too much money is being spent on games people do not want.” The chase for the next Fortnite, he says, means that “there…

One of Metaphor: ReFantazio’s subtle improvements on Persona may be better than you think, saving you time and actively earning you some dosh or recouping precious magic points if you play your cards right.Metaphor approaches combat a lot like Persona does – baddies potter around ‘dungeons’ until you run into ’em and fight through turn-based combat. What’s neat about Metaphor, though, is that you can whack and insta-kill them if you’re appropriately strong. No fuss, no fight loads, just a modest helping of experience points. Now, that’s not totally new to JRPGs and is an evolution of what we’ve seen in Persona – Ryuji could insta-flatten weak Shadows in Persona 5, and spooking fiends in Persona 3 Reload before fighting them gave you an advantage. But! Throwing all of that together and making it more accessible to your main character – suck it, Ryuji – got an approving nod from me when I played Metaphor’s demo.It doesn’t stop there, either. Metaphor is like many RPGs in that you’ll need cash – called Reeve – to buy stuff, though players are quickly finding ways to game the system. An early Metaphor Archetype you can unlock called The Merchant is pr…

When it comes to all the upcoming Bethesda games in the works right now, there’s a lot to get hyped for. We’ll keep you updated on that, and in the meantime, you can always check out some other upcoming Xbox series X games and upcoming PC games outside of Bethesda’s wheelhouse. Alongside the reveal of system requirements for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, EA and BioWare have given PC players a classic good news, bad news combo. The RPG won’t feature the controversial Denuvo DRM software, but that means you won’t be able to preload the game on PC.”Dragon Age: The Veilguard won’t include any third-party DRM (such as Denuvo) on any platform,” the devs say in a new blog post, which also runs down the full system requirements. “The lack of DRM means that there will be no preload period for PC players,” they add. Instead, if you’re on PC, you’ll have to wait for the global launch time of 9am PDT / 12pm EDT / 4pm GMT on October 31 to start downloading before you can play.Denuvo is a form of digital rights management software – or DRM – intended to make it more difficult for pirates to crack games and distribute them online, and historically it’s been far more effective at thwarting pirates than other forms of protection. Denuvo’s precise impacts have always varied from game to game, but there have been enough reports of degraded performance for the software to have become infamous among PC players.Announcing upfront that The Veilguard won’t feature Denuvo is a…

The latest Helldivers 2 patch notes bring an end to Arrowhead’s 60-day recovery plan, adding a few nice improvements to some Stratagems, enemies, and systems. You’ll find that Super Earth’s Light and Heavy armor types have been buffed a little along with plasma weapons and several grenades. For me, the headline Helldivers 2 changes are the Autocannon and Recoilless Rifle both getting new ammo types to switch to for added versatility and the vastly improved Jump Pack. To help you digest this update and understand the big changes, I’ve explained the most important Helldivers 2 patch notes below.Helldivers 2 patch notes for update 01.001.104 This Helldivers 2 update marks the end of Arrowhead Studios’ 60-day (actually 63-day) commitment to radically rebalancing the game based largely on community sentiment, and this last batch of changes has added some nice improvements.Compared to the previous patch in September, this is a fair bit smaller and features fewer buffs and nerfs to weapons, Str…

Bygones PVE god roll

Bygones PVE god roll

The Destiny 2 Bygones Pulse Rifle is back in Revenant with fresh perks, and you can get it by playing Gambit or focusing Gambit Engrams with Drifter. It’s a very easy-to-use and versatile Pulse Rifle, with solid stats, a great range of perks, and lots of possible combinations, many of which are extremely useful for bolstering the weapon’s stats for the Crucible. However, it’s also one of the few weapons in Destiny 2 that can get Firefly, which is an excellent PVE perk and well worth chasing. Here are the Destiny 2 Bygones god rolls I recommend pursuing if you’re after a solid Pulse Rifle.Bygones PVE god rolls in Destiny 2 The overall power of Bygones means it’s an effective, medium-range, kinetic weapon for any loadout, but with Firefly being the standout PVE perk, this god roll is going to almost entirely revolve around that perk:Barrel: SmallboreMagazine: Ricochet RoundsPerk 1: DemolitionistPerk 2: FireflyMasterwork: Stability or HandlingMod: Choose Backup Mag, Synergy, or either of the Ammo Finder Enhancement modsDestiny 2 Revenant guidesDestiny 2 Fieldwork

Square Enix’s first stab at turning Final Fantasy into an MMO played a significant role in Discord coming to be, mainly as it gave creator Stanislav Vishnevskiy a space to chat about Final Fantasy 11.Speaking to Famitsu (thanks, Siliconera), Vishnevskiy shares that the earliest versions of Discord came about when he was in school because he wanted a space to talk to his friends about Final Fantasy 11.It wouldn’t be until he met co-founder Jason Citron when taking a job at games developer GREE, though, that Discord really took off. The pair essentially took what Vishnevskiy was using and made it available to many, many more people.Speaking about the idea behind making Discord as early as his FF11 days, Vishnevskiy acknowledges that Skype was already available but wanted something simpler that people could think of as a living room shared with friends. As ever, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Discord is indeed being used by many more people than Vishnevskiy and his Final Fantasy 11-lovin’ pals, but he remains a Final Fantasy devotee. Not only has he been playing FF11 for the past 10 years, but he’s racked up plenty of time in the critically acclaimed MMO Final Fan…

As Dead Cells creator Motion Twin gears up for the first public demo of its new co-op action roguelike, Windblown, soon to be followed by its Steam early access launch on October 24, GamesRadar+ spoke with two members of the small team about their vision for the game. Windblown follows seven years of stellar updates and expansions for the studio’s breakout hit, long shepherded by co-dev Evil Empire after it was founded and expanded by former Motion Twin staff as the mothership pressed on with other projects while maintaining creative oversight. Will Windblown follow in its update-heavy footsteps? I asked Thomas Vasseur and Yannick Berthier of the worker-owned studio of eight (for comparison, Evil Empire boasts of 70 employees and three projects on its website) if they want Windblown to have a long tail of support like Dead Cells. Berthier replied first: “If we can, why not? If we are lucky enough.”Vasseur was keener still. “I really wish it will be longer,” he said. “Because it’s multiplayer, it’s co-op, and we have a ton of things to do and a ton of things to say in this game, I think. And yes, I really hope this will be longer than Dead Cells. That would be great.”In a follo…
