Black Myth: Wukong reportedly cost developer Game Science around $43 million to make, but it more than made that money back in just weeks, boasting over 20 million sales at $60 a pop.According to a new report from the Zhejiang State Taxation Administration in China, the smash-hit action RPG had an overall estimated budget of “more than 300 million Yuan,” per machine translation. That amounts to about $42.3 million USD by current conversions, which is quite a bit lower than the $70 million budget previously reported by Bloomberg. Importantly, the scope of these figures isn’t totally clear. This tax admin specifies total development cost, while Bloomberg reported on the contribution from Game Science’s biggest external shareholder and how that compared to the game’s budget. Staff salaries, office space, necessary hardware and software, support staff, marketing, distribution, and plenty of other factors and resources can affect a game’s budget, to say nothing of eventual revenue splits with investors and partners. We simply do not have the specifics there. The exact cost to make Wukong will likely remain unclear unless the developer itself shares it, but this figure still he…

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero doesn’t fully release until tomorrow (it’s been available for a couple of days for early access buyers), but fans are already discovering additional DLC that hasn’t been revealed before.First reported by ComicBook, if you had over to Dragon Ball Sparking Zero’s SteamDB page and scroll down, you’ll see a list of ‘Downloadable Content’ for the game, including known expansions like the ‘Anime Music Pack’ that lets you change the music in the game and the ‘Ultimate Upgrade Pack’ that includes cosmetics, emotes, player card backgrounds, and an item “that increases a character’s fighting ability”.However, if you look closely, right in the middle of the list is something called the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Martial Arts Pack, and that’s the one Bandai Namco has yet to reveal. For that reason, we have no idea what it might include, or even when it’s coming, but it’s confirmation that Dragon Ball Sparking Zero isn’t done getting DLC beyond what’s already been revealed. We know the season pass includes three DLC packs that’ll add more than 20 characters to the already gargantuan fighter roster, so there’s a good chance the Martial Arts Pack will add even more. It’s w…

One of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s early story mode fights has been kicking players’ asses ever since the early access period went live, to the point that the game’s publisher is now gently offering a bit of advice – even if fans are refusing to take it.The fight in question is against Great Ape Vegeta, who offers a battle so tough that fans have succinctly called it “some BS” (and that’s just one place where players are having trouble, as the entire game’s difficulty has been called “fucking absurd”). Mere hours into early access, game publisher Bandai Namco weighed in on Twitter, memeing that “this monke got hands,” but not long after, it appears to be offering struggling fans a way out. “A win is a win,” the publisher says, sharing a gif of the menacing foe. “Lower Difficulty and Retry.”A win is a win. Lower Difficulty and Retry ◀️ pic.twitter.com/klr55NWD2YOctober 8, 2024It’s a valid suggestion, but not one that Sparking Zero’s fanbase is actually listening to. “Absolutely NOT,” one player replies, while another says: “My Saiyan pride won’t let me.” Another agrees: “My Saiyan Pride told me to LOCK THE HECK IN.”So, yeah, it looks like most players are co…

Some cheeky mods are clearing Silent Hill 2 Remake’s signature fog. What originally began as a technical limitation on the OG PlayStation turned into an instantly iconic artistic choice as Silent Hill’s oppressive, sometimes blinding fog is almost as recognizably ‘Silent Hill’ as Pyramid Head, bless his pointy heart. Was that groaning sound the wind or the growl of a nearby monster? Was that a shadow in the distance or the concrete floor blurred by nature? Every new step you take in Silent Hill is a step into the terrifying unknown, but modders have already pacified the remake. Two NexusMods mods called Sunny Hills and Silent Hill 2 HD Collection have made the spooky town fogless, revealing what looks like a standard UK high street hiding underneath – truly the stuff of nightmares. The latter cheekily pokes fun at Konami’s other re-release, as its description says the mod “makes the game more faithful to the HD collection,” which also came under fire for lifting the fog effect. (Thanks, PC Gamer.)Online screenshots of the fogless town haven’t revealed anything too unexpected yet, expect for the fact that Bloober Team’s remake is shockingly detailed beneath all that murkiness. Fans have been waiting a very long time for a new Budokai Tenkaichi game, and while Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero goes back to the subseries’ original Japanese name, it absolutely seems to be the follow-up everyone’s been dreaming of. It’s not even technically out yet, but it’s already managed the biggest Steam launch in Dragon Ball history.Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is currently out in early access, exclusively available to people who’ve spent $100 on the Deluxe Edition or $110 on the Ultimate Edition. It seems players are more than willing to pay that price, however. The game has debuted on Steam to a peak concurrent player count of 91,005, as SteamDB shows. That’s by far the biggest launch a Dragon Ball game has ever had on Steam, up from the Dragon Ball FighterZ peak of 44,303 at its launch back in 2018. Sparking Zero has similarly outclassed the concurrent player records set by more traditional fighting games like Tekken 8 (49,977) and Street Fighter 6 (70,573), and it’s managed to become the biggest licensed anime game in Steam history, too.Our Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero review calls it “the pinnacle of fanservice,” and it’s clearly met its audience. It’s also been kicking the cr…

You can get a lot done in 97 minutes. Make an elaborate dinner. Do those chores you’ve been putting off. Fritter away another irreplaceable sliver of your lifespan in your PvP game of choice. Instead of those equally excellent options, I recently gave in to my desire to play something like Metaphor: ReFantazio, the new JRPG from Atlus developed by a team of Persona and Shin Megami Tensei veterans, to tide me over until its release. Turning elsewhere to scratch this Atlus itch, I revisited Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance specifically to spend an absurd amount of time beating a single, openly unfair boss fight. It was grueling. It was inadvisable. It was a decade of justice packed into 97 minutes of turn-based brutality so vindicating that I’m still waiting on the forklift I ordered to move my ego. A boss out of time   Back in June, I had the chance to talk to Atlus veteran and now Metaphor: ReFantazio director Katsura Hashino, who got his start at the company with Shin Megami Tensei games and went on to direct 2003’s Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne. After the many times that Nocturne elbowed my teeth in when I played it over 10 years ago, naturally I took the opportunity t…

The Silent Hill 2 Remake electric chair generator puzzle is a macabre conundrum where James has to get access to the Death Chamber from the Witness Room – and the only way to do that is to turn on the electric chair itself. To do so, you need to power up the generator from the control panel outside, and that means deducing the right combination and pattern of switches so that the power is high enough to activate the chair, but not so high that the whole thing overloads. There’s a specific sequence at play here that we’ll explain below, so you can solve the grizzly electric chair puzzle in Silent Hill 2 and set that generator humming. How to turn on the electric chair generator in Silent Hill 2 The electric chair generator puzzle in the Silent Hill 2 Remake is solved by the control panel next to the door that links the Death Chamber and the Witness Room. With six generator switches and a main lever, the goal is to turn them on in the right order that the power reaches the red, as seen above, and like the Silent Hill 2 Remake Bug Room code before, there’s a bit of deduction involved here. To solve it, hit the switches in the following sequence.43613251232Main LeverMore Silent Hill 2 …

Metaphor: ReFantazio marks the beginning of a brand-new title from Atlus’ Studio Zero, but the upcoming JRPG still borrows plenty from Persona – including its unique calendar system. With just a few days to go before the monumental Metaphor release, the mastermind director behind Atlus’ beloved Persona and Shin Megami series reveals in an interview with Quest Daily how the calendar system has evolved – and why fans shouldn’t worry too much about time being restrictive. “You’re going on a journey in Metaphor, so each area has different activities,” Katsura Hashino explains.”You could be milking an animal in one place or bungee jumping in another. There’s a wide variety of things to do.” Engaging in such activities isn’t limited to any one destination, either. Players can pass the time doing basic real-world tasks in-game that add to its immersion, like reading a book or taking care of laundry. There’s also no need for fans to worry about missing out on anything at all, according to Hashino.”We didn’t want players to feel limited by time,” states the director. “You’ll be able to return later to places you’ve visited using a fast travel system, so you can do everything you want without…

There’ve been a lot of mods for Red Dead Redemption 2 since its launch, with everything from visual enhancements to one that turns the action-adventure into a chill job sim, but this new creation from Twitch streamer and ex-software engineer Blurbs might just offer the weirdest way to play the game yet.Behold, Red Dead Redemption 2, but all of the NPCs are extremely drunk. This chaotic mod is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: every NPC in sight is constantly stumbling around, falling over, throwing up, and if they’re particularly unlucky, wobbling straight off the side of cliffs, straight to their doom. This continues throughout cutscenes, too, which – depending on how you look at it – totally ruins the story, or offers a truly bizarre new twist on it. You can get a glimpse of it in action below.I modded Red Dead Redemption 2 so that all NPCs are drunk, all of the time.Yes, even in cutscenes. pic.twitter.com/8heAqVlvZNOctober 7, 2024Since the NPCs definitely aren’t supposed to behave like this at all times, the whole gameplay experience isn’t exactly fine-tuned – they can even phase through poor ol’ Arthur Morgan when they fall over, which must be extremely…
